Common questions
When is GSTR-2B generated?
GSTR-2B for a month is generated by the GST portal on the 14th of the following month, from your suppliers’ filed returns and your actions in the Invoice Management System (IMS).
Why is my ITC in GSTR-2B lower than my purchase register?
Common reasons: the supplier filed late or not at all, used the wrong GSTIN, reported the invoice in a different month, amended it, or the invoice was rejected or left pending in IMS. Some credits are also blocked by law even when they appear in 2B.
Can I claim ITC that is not in GSTR-2B?
Generally no — credit has to appear in GSTR-2B. The fix is to follow up with the supplier so the invoice is reported, then claim it in the period it appears, within the legal time limit.
What is the deadline to claim missed ITC?
Input tax credit for a financial year can be claimed up to 30 November of the following year, or the date the annual return is filed, whichever is earlier.
